Alumnus Drives Livelihood Growth in Malaita

In Abukwau, Malaita Province, families’ livelihoods are improving through a new pig farming project led by Australia Awards alumnus Fred Boyd Ramo Ho’Asinanau.

The “Empowering Livelihood through Sustainable Pig Farming” project trained 17 community members in modern and traditional pig care, disease prevention, feeding, and safe use of pig manure for gardening.

Women, youth, and small-scale farmers are now producing healthier pigs that meet market standards, earning higher incomes to support their families and children’s education.

The project also created partnerships, opening markets in Auki and neighbouring villages. Income and manure are reinvested to boost sustainability and farming opportunities.
